Welcome to Speak Unique!
Every person deserves the opportunity to communicate, connect, and be understood.
Speak Unique offers individualized Spelling to Communicate (S2C) instruction for nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals, supporting the development of purposeful motor skills that make reliable communication possible.
Whether you're just beginning your S2C journey or looking for ongoing support, you'll find a compassionate, encouraging environment built on respect, connection, and the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to be heard.
Spelling to Communicate (S2C) is an alternative communication method that supports nonspeaking and unreliably speaking individuals in expressing themselves through spelling. Through individualized instruction, S2C helps develop the purposeful motor skills needed for communication through spelling, empowering individuals to communicate their thoughts, feelings, ideas, and opinions.
Speak Unique's mission is to empower nonspeaking individuals by providing high-quality, individualized S2C services. Through collaboration with each individual's Communication Regulation Partner (CRP), communication skills are supported beyond practitioner sessions, helping spellers build confidence, connection, and greater independence in everyday life.
My name is Elise, I am a Certified Spelling to Communicate (S2C) Practitioner and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with over 15 years of experience supporting nonspeaking and unreliably speaking individuals.
My journey to becoming an S2C practitioner began after witnessing individuals successfully communicate through spelling when other approaches had not met their needs. Seeing their intelligence, humor, and unique personalities shine through inspired me to dedicate my career to helping others access meaningful communication.
I founded Speak Unique because I believe every individual deserves the opportunity to express their thoughts, make their own choices, and be heard. It is an honor to support spellers and their families as they build confidence, develop communication skills, and celebrate every success along the way.
